Good morning, Lancaster.

It's Friday the 13th 😮 and St. Patrick's Day weekend is here. Between bar crawls, beer fests, Celtic Woman, Screaming Orphans, and Annie Bailey's going full Irish for three straight days — this might be the most packed weekend we've ever listed. If you're not wearing green by Saturday afternoon, you're doing it wrong.

In today's Lancaster Ledger:

• Lancaster Public Library is suing its own landlord

• Overnight lane closures coming to the Route 30/222 interchange

• Boil water advisory hits Lancaster Township

• Four bald eagle eggs are being watched by millions

• A 200-year-old mystery was finally cracked open

Let's do it.

THE DIGEST

Lancaster Public Library sues parking authority over stalled flood repairs 🏛️

Lancaster Public Library has had enough. After nearly a year of waiting for repairs following a February 2025 sewage and water flood that dumped roughly 5,000 gallons onto the library's first floor, the library filed a lawsuit against its landlord — the Lancaster Parking Authority — on February 25, 2026. The library says it's lost over $300,000 due to the flooding and is seeking $400,000 in total damages.

According to the suit, the parking authority failed to respond promptly when the flooding was reported, and a lack of clear building plans meant it took about three hours to stop the water. The library's lease requires the parking authority to maintain and repair structural components and cover costs connected to lease failures. Library Executive Director Lissa Holland said the library "has spent nearly a year seeking remediation and prevention commitments." The parking authority's solicitor, Joan London, disagrees, stating they "have met all obligations." This one's headed to court.

Overnight ramp closure, lane restrictions coming to Route 30/222 interchange 🚧

Heads up, commuters. PennDOT announced that starting next week, the Route 30/222 interchange in Manheim Township will see nightly lane restrictions in both directions between Route 30 and the Landis Valley Road overpass. The work runs Monday through Friday from 9 PM to 6 AM for the installation of overhead sign structures. Expect rolling stops of up to 15 minutes in each direction.

On the night of March 19, the exit ramp from Route 222 south to Route 30 west will be fully closed from 9 PM to 5 AM for paving. It's all part of the four-year, $72.1 million interchange improvement project scheduled for completion in September 2027. If you drive that stretch regularly, plan your late-night routes accordingly — or just stay out until 6 AM. (We're kidding. Mostly.)

Some Lancaster Township residents under boil water advisory 💧

If you live in Lancaster Township, check whether your area is affected — a boil water advisory was issued on March 11 for some residents. Until further notice, you'll need to boil your water before drinking, cooking, or brushing your teeth. No word yet on what caused the advisory or when it'll be lifted. If you're in the affected zone, keep those pots on the stove for now.

Stay tuned for updates. We'll share more as it becomes available.

Eagle-eyed fans spot full nests on Lancaster County and Hanover live cams 🦅

If you haven't checked in on the eagle cams lately, you're missing out. The Lancaster County PA Farm Country Eagle Cam now has four eggs in the nest, courtesy of the eagle pair fans have named Lisa and Oliver. Last year, the duo hatched three chicks, two of whom survived long enough to fledge. Over at the Hanover Eagle Cam at Codorus State Park, viewers spotted a third egg on March 10 as Dutchess tends the nest while Duke is MIA.

The streams — hosted by HDOnTap in partnership with the Pennsylvania Game Commission and Comcast Business — pull in more than 1 million views from bird watchers every year. Four eggs at Farm Country is a big deal. If all goes well, you could be watching four fuzzy eaglets stumble around the nest in a few weeks. We'll be refreshing.

Nearly 200-year-old mystery surrounding sign embedded in tree revealed to be unsolvable 🌳

For generations, people wondered what was written on the slim metal road sign embedded inside a white oak tree at the Hoffman farm at Nolt and Colebrook Roads in Mount Joy. The approximately 200-year-old tree had bark that grew completely over the sign about a century ago, hiding whatever message it carried. When the tree fell in a 2018 storm, it was auctioned off in November 2025 and purchased by Sam Hoffman, 70 — a cousin of the late property owner — for $150.

Hoffman had a woodworker friend carefully attempt to uncover the sign. The big reveal? The metal surface was completely blank. No readable text remained after nearly two centuries of compression inside the tree. A 1968 Elizabethtown Chronicle story had speculated the sign once read "To Rheems," "To Marietta," or "To Donegal Springs." We'll never know.
