TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Lancaster. Quick question — HOW is it the middle of April already?!

In today's Lancaster Ledger:

• Lapp's Farm Market unveils a massive new home

Let's do it.

THE DIGEST

Lapp's Farm Market Opens Its New 7,500-Square-Foot Home Next Week 🌽

Lapp's Farm Market is about to graduate from open-air stands to a full year-round operation. The West Lampeter Township business has wrapped construction on a 7,500-square-foot market and bakery café at 1410 Old Lampeter Road, complete with a 42-space parking lot, walk-up window, and porch seating. The new Lapp's will keep selling produce from the adjoining family farm while adding meats, an expanded deli with daily soups, baked goods, milkshakes, ice cream, and coffee. The $1.5 million investment opens next week, with hours 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Moses Lapp, who managed the old market and partnered with his father Isaac on the project, served as general contractor and did much of the interior work himself. (He used to own a cabinetmaking business.) Hard not to root for that.

Route 30 Shuts Down All Weekend for the Final Interchange Closure 🚧

If you drive Route 30, plan around this one. PennDOT is closing Route 30 in both directions at the Route 30/Route 222 interchange in Manheim Township from 9 p.m. Friday until before 5 a.m. Monday. Eastbound lanes close between the Fruitville Pike and New Holland Pike exits; westbound closes between the Route 222 north off-ramp and the Route 222 south on-ramp. Crews will set beams for a new two-lane bridge carrying the ramp from eastbound Route 30 to northbound Route 222 — the fourth and final full closure for the $72 million, four-year interchange project that wraps in September 2027.

The detour for Route 30 east runs Route 501 south to North Duke Street to Route 23 east, then back onto Route 30. The three prior closures all ended early — fingers crossed for a repeat.

Giant Is Building a New Grocery Store at the Former Martin's Country Market Site 🛒

The shopping center at Route 322 and Hackman Road is getting a Giant. The Giant Co. announced plans this week for a 38,000-square-foot store on the Ephrata Township site where Martin's Country Market was destroyed by fire in February 2024. Giant will demolish what's left of the old center and build from scratch. This will be the Carlisle-based grocer's second Ephrata store — their existing location at 850 E. Main St. is about four miles away — pushing Giant's Lancaster County store count to 13. Construction starts once permits are in place; no opening date yet.

Giant is leasing the property from the Martin family, who still own the 12.3-acre parcel after listing it for $9.85 million last year. A full-circle ending for a site that's been feeding Ephrata since 1983.
