THE DIGEST
Hotel Fulton Could Be Reborn as Bar, Restaurant, and Apartments 🏨
The historic Hotel Fulton at 637 N. Plum St. in Lancaster city might finally be coming back. The once-beloved neighborhood spot — known for its steak and wing nights — was originally built in 1905 and has been closed since a roof collapse 13 years ago, much to the frustration of neighbors who've watched it sit empty. Now, a proposal to revive it as a bar, restaurant, and apartments is moving through the Lancaster City Revitalization and Improvement Zone (CRIZ) Authority.
The application for CRIZ financial assistance was "enthusiastically approved" by the project review committee and heads to the Board of Directors at their March 24 meeting. The property still needs to be added to the CRIZ district and get both board and state approval before any money flows. Fingers crossed. This one's been a long time coming.
Nighttime Lane Closures Coming to Route 30 This Week 🚧
Heads up if you drive Route 30 through Manheim Township. New overhead signs are going up on the westbound side next week, and PennDOT will have nighttime lane restrictions in place from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday, March 23 through Friday, March 27. The work zone runs between New Holland Pike (Route 23) and Oregon Pike (Route 272).
It's all part of the Route 30/Route 222 Interchange Improvement Project. Also worth noting: a full weekend closure is planned for April 17–20 covering both eastbound and westbound Route 30, plus the bridge carrying Route 222 over Route 30. Mark your calendars now.
Lancaster County Unveils First Parks and Trails Master Plan Since 1992 🌳
The Lancaster County planning department just dropped its first comprehensive parks and trails master plan in 34 years. Michael Domin, principal planner at the Lancaster County Planning Department, presented the new plan at the Lancaster County Public Safety Training Center on Thursday. Since the last plan in 1992, the county government has added three more parks to its portfolio.
The update represents a complete rethink of the region's recreation and open space strategy — and if you've ever wished for more connected trails or better park access, this is the kind of plan that makes that happen. Love to see it.
