Good morning, Lancaster. If you were a Primanti Bros. regular on Lititz Pike, I'm sorry to report that your coleslaw-topped sandwich days are over. The windows are covered in brown paper and everything.

In today's Lancaster Ledger:

  • Primanti Bros. permanently closes in Lancaster

  • A bobcat survived getting stuck in a car grill

  • The Red Rose Run turns 50 — registration is open

  • Endo Café is expanding to the Marietta rail trail

  • The Beach Boys are playing two shows in Lancaster this fall

Let's do it.

— Collin

THE DIGEST

Primanti Bros. on Lititz Pike is permanently closed 🥪

If you drove past Lancaster Shopping Center this week and noticed brown paper covering the Primanti Bros. windows — that's because it's done. The Pittsburgh-based chain permanently closed its Manheim Township location at 1659 Lititz Pike, along with its Camp Hill restaurant at Capital City Mall. A Boardman, Ohio location also shuttered the same day. Within the past year, the company has closed seven locations total.

Primanti Bros. VP of Marketing Ryan Wilkinson said the closures came after "a detailed review of our portfolio." This follows the chain shuttering its Chambersburg and Hanover locations back in September. The only central PA locations still open are York and Hershey. If you're craving a sandwich with fries and coleslaw piled on top, you're driving a bit farther now.

A bobcat was rescued from a car grill — and is recovering at a Lancaster County wildlife center 🐾

On Feb. 15, State Game Warden Taylor Knash contacted Raven Ridge Wildlife Center in Washington Boro about a young female bobcat that had been found trapped in the grill of a car in Adams County. Knash drove 90 minutes to bring her to the center. Staff weren't optimistic she'd survive the trip — but she did!

X-rays revealed both legs on her right side were broken. Surgery the next morning successfully repaired the fractures with plates. She'll be at Raven Ridge for at least two months before she can jump, run, or climb again — and several more months after that before she's ready to return to the wild. The center is asking for donations to help cover nearly $9,200 in medical costs. You can donate through their Facebook page or at ravenridgewildlifecenter.org.

The Red Rose Run turns 50 this summer — and registration is open 🏃

Lancaster's signature 5-mile race is hitting a milestone. The 50th annual Red Rose Run is set for Saturday, June 6, starting and finishing at Ewell Plaza in downtown Lancaster. Registration is open now through June 2 and costs $40 ($45 on race day). The race is presented by Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health.

This year's prize pool tops $27,000, including a $1,977 bonus for anyone who breaks the course record. Two participants from the original 1977 race — Dave Glouner and Elvin Kraybill — will be recognized and honored before the start. There's also a kids' fun run at 9:30 AM — every participant gets a 2026 Stormers ticket voucher. Register at runsignup.com.

Endo Café is opening a second location on the Marietta rail trail ☕

The owners of Endo Café on N. Prince Street in Lancaster are expanding to Marietta. The new spot — called Endo Collective — will open in a former lumber warehouse at 501 E. Front St., right where the Northwest Lancaster County River Trail crosses the railroad tracks toward the Susquehanna River. Expected opening: late spring.

Endo Collective will include a café with coffee, tea, and pastries, plus a production facility for the business's hemp-derived THC beverages. Endo was founded by Jake and Jamie — he's a former professional road cyclist who turned to CBD after a career-ending crash, she's a former special education teacher. They opened the Lancaster city location as a CBD-based bike café and have been growing ever since. Love to see it.

The Beach Boys are playing two shows in Lancaster this September 🏖️

The Beach Boys are coming to American Music Theatre for two performances on September 16 — a 2 PM matinee and a 7:30 PM evening show. The tour celebrates the 60th anniversary of their landmark album "Pet Sounds," which Rolling Stone ranked No. 2 on its list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

The current lineup is led by original member Mike Love alongside longtime member Bruce Johnston. Co-founder Brian Wilson passed away in 2025. Tickets and info at amtshows.com.
